How to use learning cards with your child
Published on 1 June 2026
Simple ways to play with cards from age 2 to 8, without turning your living room into a classroom.
Learning cards are one of the most flexible resources there is: they fit in a bag, spread out on a rug and lend themselves to a thousand games.
Before age 3, simply name things: look at a card, say the word, find the real object around the house. Between 3 and 5, move on to sorting (farm animals on one side, wild animals on the other) and first memory games, starting with six pairs. After 5, invent riddles: “I'm thinking of an animal with stripes…”.
The secret? Short sessions — ten minutes is plenty — and stopping while it's still fun. That's what makes children want to play again tomorrow.
